Life imprisonment for ex-policeman Gheorghe Cotorobai, accused of murdering Ana-Maria Guja, a 19-year-old girl from Orhei who was six months pregnant. The tragedy occurred in April 2024. Then, after an extensive mobilization and massive searches, the young woman, mistreated and sexually abused, was found dead in a locality of Telenesti. The sentence was handed down by Orhei District Court magistrates, IPN reports.
According to prosecutors, Gheorghe Cotorobai abducted the young woman from a public transportation station. After they traveled a stretch of road through the city, he placed her in the trunk of his car, changed the direction of travel and took her to his home in Telenesti district. The young woman was raped and the next morning she was taken to a forest in Telenesti and beaten to death.
The former policeman will serve his sentence in a closed prison. The sentence can be appealed.
Gheorghe Cotorobai told journalists that he is innocent.
