Life expectancy in Moldova is 68 years

Reduction of child death rate and stabilisation of the general death rate of the population has positively influenced the life expectancy, data from the National Bureau of Statistics show. The average life expectancy in Moldova has increased from 65.8 years in 1995 to 68.4 years last year. Average life expectancy of men is 64.6 years, and of women – 72.2 years. Life expectancy for women at birth is higher than that of men by 7.6 years. The difference is owing to the high level of premature death rate among male population. Due to the different death rate, the life expectancy of the population from towns and cities is higher than that from villages, by 3.2 years in the case of men and 3 years for women.
