Licensing Chamber vice director to be held on remand for 30 days

The Buiucani Court on October 24 issued a warrant for the arrest of the vice director of the Licensing Chamber for a period of 30 days. The functionary’s lawyer said the decision was passed without legal reason and without substantiation and will be challenged in the appeals court, IPN reports.

The vice director of the Licensing Chamber Eduard Hadei told the press that it is a confusion and the decision is unsupported. He noted he cannot pronounce on the legality of the decision, but voiced hope that things will be clarified.

The lawyer for the accused Natalia Rusu said the court’s decision will be appealed because it is unsubstantiated and has no legal reason. According to her, her client didn’t commit the offense of which he is accused and his innocence will be proven.

Five employees of the State Licensing Chamber, including the institution’s vice director, were arrested on October 22 as a result of an operation performed by anticorruption prosecutors and officers of the National Anticorruption Center. The functionaries are suspected of committing illegalities when issuing or extending licenses for gaming businesses as a result of which damage of 15 000 000 lei was caused to the state budget.
