The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology will ask the Government to order holding a contest to select the companies that will offer reasonable prices for issuing license plates. The announcement was made by Minister Pavel Filip during a fact-finding visit to the Chisinau transport registration office. Currently, the right to make and issue license plates and to set their prices is held by one company. “Regretfully, we experience a classical situation in Moldova, when a group of persons monopolizes the area. Under a Government Decision of 2001, one company was designated to issue license plates. This company sets exaggerated prices,” the minister said. A license plate in Moldova costs 390 lei. In Romania, the price is three times lower. In another connection, Pavel Filip said he requested the company “Registru” to annul the order whereby the drivers are obliged to change the license plate if the unit of transport becomes property of another person.
