Liberals suggest new price indication rules
The Liberal parliamentary group proposes obliging the sellers to indicate the prices of all the products on sale in a visible form in the national currency and with the ordinary name in Romanian. A legislative initiative in this respect was submitted to Parliament, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the legislative body.
Under the bill, the label must contain the usual name in the Romanian language, or the commercial name, the net quantity or volume, the selling price, the purchase or production price, the place of origin or the production place.
The selling price, unit price and purchase or production price must be indicated in a clear form in national currency. The seller can provide information about the prices in other currencies, but these prices must not exceed the size of the price in national currency. In case of promotional sales, the label will obligatorily contain the old price and the new price.
The authors of the bill say that if the labels are missing or the information on them does not meet the rules, the seller should be held administratively accountable. The authenticity and correctness of the information on the labels will be verified by the Consumer Protection Agency, based on the documents provided by the seller.
If the information is incomplete or incorrect, the consumers can ask for compensation by providing evidence that damage was caused to them. The compensation is determined based on the selling price.
According to the authors, the indication of the purchase or production price will prevent the sellers from asking exaggerated prices for a product or service.
If it is passed in Parliament, the law will come into force on July 1.
