Liberals seek special Parliament meeting to discuss progress of April 2009 probe

The Liberal Party's parliamentary group is asking for a special meeting of the legislature to be held in May in order to discuss the results of the probe into the April 2009 events, Info-Prim Neo reports. In particular, the Liberals want to hear reports from the Prosecutor General, the Interior Minister, the director of the Security and Intelligence Service, and the director of the State Protection and Security Guard Service, the party said in a press statement marking the third anniversary of the events. The Liberals also request the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Construction to identify the necessary resources and speed up the restoration of the Parliament's and Presidential Office's buildings and to erect a 'Monument to Liberty' outside the Parliament building. “Thousands of young people endured suffering, and some of them even sacrificed their lives for the sake of ultimate change. Their hopes were, and still are, with the democratic parties, with the parties that make up the Eurointegration Alliance, and we have an obligation to live up to these expectations. However three years is a very long time, a period during which the elucidation of the causes and consequences of the events following the April 5 (parliamentary elections) has appeared to be blocked or unduly delayed by the relevant bodies”, the Liberal Party said in its statement. The communique also recalls that in May, at the 15th meeting of the EU-Moldova Cooperation Committee, our country is due to report on the progress of the investigation.
