Liberals say BAC exams were a failure

Liberal Party (PL) leader Mihai Ghimpu says the high-school graduation examination session, also dubbed the BAC exams, were a failure, and blames the Ministry of Education for that. “The examinees were stressed before and especially during the exams. We must overcome these difficulties and offer the students the moral support and favorable conditions they need to take the exams”, Ghimpu told a news conference on Wednesday. “The impossibility of holding the exams on June 17 at 45 percent of the examination centers demonstrates once again the failure of the relevant ministry”, added Ghimpu. Lilian Carp, a young PL member, said the worst affected were the examinees who had to wait hours in sweltering rooms, without water, for their test sheets to be ready. “They were entering (the examination rooms) at 8 and were waiting three or four hours until they received their test sheets. Nowhere in the world is there such a practice. In the European countries, the students find their tests right on the desk when they enter the classroom”, said Carp. Doina Chorescu, another young member of the party and a fresh graduate from a Chisinau lyceum said such an attitude had discouraged the examinees. “We suffered, we were stressed. For the failure in organizing the BAC exams, the minister of education must resign”, she declared. “I wouldn't want to think that those things were done on purpose in the aftermath of the student protests on April 7, but I wouldn't rule out it either”, said Ghimpu. The Liberal leader also declared that the deviations from the European standards in organizing the BAC exams have led to the politicization of this process and to protectionism for the children of government officials.
