Liberals: sacking Government, Communists prove distrust in own electorate

The Moldovan Liberal Party (PL) considers that, by dismissing the Tarlev Cabinet, the Communists have demonstrated they don’t trust even their own electorate, they fear to lose the 2009 parliamentary elections, their concern for the fate of the gained wealth and its loss in case of electoral failure, as well as their will to whitewash the image marred during 7 years of governing, Info-Prim Neo reports. The PL leader, Mihai Ghimpu, told a news conference on Monday, 24 March, that the dismissal, and not the leave of Tarlev on his own wish, was caused by the Communists realizing the governing had been bad, that Moldova, from a poor country, turned into Europe’s poorest one, that all the “successes” of the government were but on paper, the reality being very harsh. If the Tarlev Government had had the successes praised by President Vladimir Voronin, it wouldn’t have been dismissed in a pre-electoral year, but they would have bank on “the successes” to maintain in power, says the PL leader. “Perhaps the President and the Communists have understood the justice is on the opposition’s side, that there is a deep social-economic and political crisis in Moldova, and decided to replace Tarlev with Zinaida Greceanai, who neither will be able to change anything in this situation, because the country is conducted by people with old mentality,” Ghimpu said. The PL deputy president, Dorin Chirtoaca, the mayor of Chisinau, has said the Tarlev cabinet is on a run to escape the responsibility for impoverishing the population. “A party running from responsibility has serious problems in its relationships with the citizens,” said the PL deputy president. Dorin Chirtoaca says the winning chances of the opposition parties in the 2009 race start in Chisinau. If the viability of democratic alliances is proved as well as the wish to change the things for better in the Capital, the things in the rest of the country will develop according to the same scheme. The PL new deputy president, Anatol Salaru, is certain that during this pre-electoral year, the Communists will make more and more gaffes, will be virulent and tough with the opposition, many things will be sacrificed for the sake of the victory in the parliamentary elections. According to the PL leadership, the Communists Party, at its recent sixth congress, missed the last chance to modernize, remaining with deep roots in the vices of the past, not willing, or willing only declaratively, to integrate into the European Union. According to the PL leaders, the voters must understand the Communists’ time has passed away, that people with modern visions shall come to power, eager to change the deplorable situation of the Moldovan citizens, who will promote European values. On March 22, the PL’s Central Council discussed the social-economic and political situation in Moldova, the problems of the local administration and the situation in the Chisinau Municipal Council. The Council found that R. Moldova was in a deep social-economic and political crisis, what was confirmed by the dismissal of the Tarlev cabinet.
