The Liberal Party (PL) is in favor of dissolving Parliament and holding early legislative elections by the end of this year, though it is not sure that the head of state will be elected after them. The Liberal lawmakers convened on September 6 to formulate a position following the failure of the constitutional referendum and present it to the governing alliance for consideration, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the Liberal leader and Acting President Mihai Ghimpu, the referendum failed due to the threshold of 1/3. “I shouldn't have listened to those who said a threshold was necessary. The European practice shows there should be no referendum threshold. Those who wants to contribute take part. The Venice Commission made such a recommendation to us. But we did not listen and now have the result we have,” Mihai Ghimpu said. “I'm for holding early legislative elections in autumn and dissolving the Parliament as soon as possible. However, the elections do not resolve the political crisis,” the Acting President said. The PL's position will be stated in the governing alliance's meeting set to take place today, starting at 5pm.
