Liberals leave CMC meeting amid row

The Liberal faction on the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) Wednesday left the meeting of the Council, expressing thus their disagreement with a draft decision to allow a foreign company to build a residential complex on a plot that was earlier leased out by the City Hall, Info-Prim Neo reports. The land that is about 3 hectares in area was leased out to a company working in the food industry in 1979. This company improvised a stadium with a running track there. The lease was extended in 2008. Meanwhile, the company reached an agreement with a foreign economic entity and asked the municipal administration to change the purpose of the plot so that a residential complex could be constructed there. As the Liberals left, the other factions did not have the number of votes needed to adopt the decision. The chairman of the Liberal faction Ion Gabura has told Info-Prim Neo that the Liberals left the meeting because they did not want to witness an act of stealing as the inhabitants of Ciocana district are being deprived of the only stadium in the area. Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said that during five years he hadn’t faced such a problem and they need to go to the spot and discuss with the residents so as to avoid speculations by certain persons or political forces. Deputy mayor Nistor Grozavu said that from urbanistic viewpoint, that plot can be classed as type R6, which means that a modern stadium or a residential complex can be built there. The draft decision will be examined again in the next meeting of the CMC.
