The Liberal lawmakers requested that Minister of the Interior Dorin Recean should be questioned about an incident that involved the Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca, who is the first deputy chairman of the Liberal Party. The request was made by MP Valeriu Munteanu, who said that this is a case of abuse of power and Minister Recean should provide explanations, IPN reports.
On a social networking site, Dorin Chirtoaca wrote that in the evening of July 2, at about 10pm, when he was driving his vehicle, he was followed and barred access by a civilian car on Banulescu-Bodoni St, at the intersection of Stefan cel Mare Blvd. Meanwhile, a car of the National Patrolling Inspectorate approached them. The mayor said that an individual, with a camera, insulated him and accused him of driving under the influence. One of the policemen had a Kalashnikov gun on him.
Dorin Chirtoaca asked that he be subject to a breath test. The police team didn’t have an alcohol tester and called another police car to bring one. The result of the breath test was 0.00 mg/L. After this incident, the mayor went to the National Narcology Dispensary, where he did an alcohol test again of his own free will. The result was again 0.00 mg/L.
Dorin Chirtoaca said that he found out from the police that between 7pm and 8pm he had been in the Great National Assembly Square, where he was seen drinking a glass of beer. “If the breath test had shown a result that would have suited the ‘alcoholism combating’ team with a video and a Kalashnikov gun, evidently the images would have been placed on the Internet and disseminated to all the TV channels. As the discrediting operation failed, would they have the courage to present all the pictures or will say that they cannot find them?” asked the mayor.
Answering the request of the Liberal Party, Head of Parliament Igor Corman said Dorin Recean will be present in Parliament tomorrow, July 4, when the simple motion put forward by the Communist lawmakers is to be examined.
