The new edition of the quarterly publication “Euromonitor”, produced by the Association ADEPT and the Center “Expert-Grup”, says the abolition of the EU visa requirements for Moldovans from April 28 is one of the most visible achievements in the European integration process in the first quarter of this year. Hoverer, there are risks concerning corruption in state institutions and the use of the visa-free regime for getting employment in Europe, IPN reports.
According to the publication, negotiations on a new accord concerning the safety of products of vegetal origin were opened with Russia. Under the accord, the National Food Safety Agency will make sure that the products exported to Russia are of a high quality and are safe. Experts consider the infrastructure for testing and certifying the products of animal origin should be improved, while the production process should be adjusted to the European standards so that these products become competitive on foreign markets.
The adoption of the Medium-Term State Debit Management Strategy for 2014-2016 was the key event in the area of macroeconomic and microfinance policies. According to the strategy, the foreign financing sources will increase to the detriment of the internal ones, which will represent 86.5% of the sources for financing the state debt. The risks of financing the budget deficit, which remains at 2.4% of the GDP, will also grow.
As to the justice sector, the reform of the prosecution service and the standardization of the ethics code are overdue, while the polygraph testing of judges and prosecutors, which is to be used from January 1, 2015, may remain unimplemented. As regards accomplishments, they include the implementation of the e-Justice system by which the cases are distributed at random and the audio recording of hearings, which became possible with the logistic and financial support of USAID, as well as the adoption of the Law on the Testing of Professional Integrity.
Regretfully, the effort made to settle the Transnistrian conflict was weakened by the unilateral actions of the Transnistrian authorities, aimed against the Moldovan peacekeepers and the Moldovan-administered Latin-scrip schools.
