Liberal Party wants new Constitution
The Liberal Party (PL) says the Constitutions should be revised and adjusted to the European norms. In a program on Publika TV, the party’s president Mihai Ghimpu said the procedure for electing the Prosecutor General and the President of Moldova should be modified, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The Liberals believe the Prosecutor General should not be named by Parliament. “Our Prosecutor’s Office is of Soviet, military type. In a trial, the prosecutor plays the same role as the lawyer,” said the leader of the PL.
Mihai Ghimpu stated that the agreement to constitute the Alliance for European Integration 2 does not envision the amendment of the Supreme Law. However, the constitutional amendment proposal will be discussed with the alliance partners. There may be held a referendum on the matter.
The president of the PL reiterated that he was ready to support the Communists’ proposal for amending Article 78 of the Constitution, which defines the procedure for electing the head of state.
The Communists Party suggested organizing a third round of voting if the head of state is not elected in the first two rounds by 61 and, respectively, 57 votes. In the third round, the President would be elected by 52 votes.
