Liberal Party says Veaceslav Iordan could become mayor only by election fraud

The candidate of the Party of Communists could become Chisinau mayor only if the election outcome is falsified, leader of the Liberal Party Mihai Ghimpu told a press conference on June 13. According to Ghimpu, to avoid electoral breaches that could lead to fraud in the voting process on June 17, the LP requested the Central Election Commission to eliminate potential sources of fraud. The need to count the ballots in the presence of the members of the electoral bureau and observers in the morning of June 17 before the commencement of the election, but not the night before is key. The need to ensure the guaranteed right of the observers and representatives of the electoral candidates to assist during the electoral procedures is also mentioned, along the need to create conditions for these to follow without interference, the count of ballots. Dorin Chirtoaca said for his part that the LP wishes to have a fair, free, democratic and lawful electoral process on June 17. Referring to the accusations of dictatorship in the LP, Mihai Ghimpu stated that once the election is over, a press conference will be organised to uncover the relations between the members of the party, including the young wing, with the president of the party. Ghimpu also underlined that the LP is the only party with a municipal councillor who is currently a student.
