Liberal Party says Communists boycott referendum because they do not trust their voters

The Communists Party (PCRM) resorted to the boycott of the September 5 constitutional referendum because they do not trust their voters, Liberal MP Boris Vieru said during public debates on the national TV channel “Moldova 1” on August 19, Info-Prim Neo reports. ”The Communists no more trust their voters. It is incredible! This time again, the PCRM bans the people from voting as they banned the Communist parliamentary group from taking part in the presidential elections, when Marian Lupu was to be voted in as head of state,” Boris Vieru said. According to him, the Moldovans should participate in the constitutions referendum and vote in favor of direct election of the President so that poverty and corruption are eradicated in Moldova. Democrat lawmaker Igor Corman also called on the voters to vote for amending Article 78 of the Constitution so as to stop the endless election campaigns. The first vice president of the Moldova Noastra Alliance Victor Osipov said he was sure that Article 78 will be modified as a result of the plebiscite, but asked the voters to actively take part in the referendum. The PCRM’s secretary Iurie Muntean reiterated that the Opposition will boycott the referendum. “If you really want to get rid of these rapacious governors and do not want Ghimpu, Filat and Lupu to remain in power, don’t go to the referendum,” Muntean said, addressing the voters.
