Liberal lawmaker Valeriu Munteanu made a request to Prosecutor General Corneliu Gurin, demanding that the Party of Socialists (PSRM) should be excluded from the election campaign and from the Register of the Political Parties if it’s proven that this party was financed by Russia, IPN reports.

According to Valeriu Munteanu, the local press quoted Russian media outlets as saying that the PSRM was weekly offered by €500,000 for organizing the election campaign of the current Balkan of Gagauzia Irina Vlah and for carrying out other political activities. The Russian press also reported that the party cannot account for the used money.

The MP says Moldova’s legislation bans the financing of political parties from outside and thus the Prosecutor General’s Office should clarify this situation and penalize the party if the mentioned information is true.
