The president of the Liberal International Hans van Baalen announced in Chisinau his support for Cristian David, who is the Social Liberal Union’s candidate for the Romanian Senate. “I’m here for a certain reason. I want to support Cristian David, who is a candidate for a seat on the Senate of Romania. But not only for this reason. As a member of the European Parliament, I support Moldova’s European aspirations,” Hans van Baalen said in a news conference on December 1, Info-Prim Neo reports. Hans van Baalen also said that the Liberal faction on the European Parliament and the International-Liberal faction have had a fruitful and rich cooperation over time with Liberal parties from Eastern Europe and Central Europe. Hans van Baalen said that he also represents the Liberal Party of the Netherlands, which cooperates with the National Liberal Party of Romania that Cristian David represents. According to him, Romania, as a member of the European Union at the Eastern border and as a neighbor of Moldova, can play a very important role in the European integration process of Moldova, the role of a bridge. Cristian David told the same news conference that he runs on behalf of the Social Liberal Union for the Senatorial College No. 1 “Diaspora”. This college covers the Romanians from Moldova, Ukraine, Russia and up to China. “Going from Romania to the West, we go to Italy, Spain and the UK. It is a senatorial college with a very grate geographical coverage,” he stated. He also said that as a senator of the Romanians from abroad, he assures that he will contribute to the maximum simplification of the legislation and the procedures concerning the regaining of Romanian nationality and the transcription of the civil status documents. Among his objectives are the creation of a Moldova-Romanian library, the implementation of a number of crossborder projects and the promotion of the Romanian citizens from Moldova to administrative posts in Bucharest. The parliamentary elections in Romania will take place on December 9. The Romanians from Moldova will be able to vote at the 19 polling places established in Chisinau and a number of districts.
