Liberal group leaves meetings of Chisinau Council

The councilors of the Liberal Party left the February 11 meeting of the Chisinau Municipal Council. At the beginning of the meeting, the Liberal group’s leader Ion Cebanu said the Liberal councilors will not take part in the meetings if the agenda is not well planned and until it is not clear who represents the alliance and who represents the opposition. According to him, in the current conditions the Council cannot be functional, IPN reports.

Ion Cebanu said the decision by the councilors of the European People’s Party to withdraw from the pro-European alliance formed on the Council caused a blockage and a favor was thus done to the Socialist councilors. “Not the Liberals denounced the alliance agreement and not we removed Ion Stefanita from the alliance,” he stated, noting that this gets a ‘salary’ from a very rich person.

The Liberal councilor called on his colleagues from the former alliance to agree together an agenda for the Council’s meetings.

For his part, independent councilor Ion Stefanita said that if there is evidence that he took money from someone, this should be provided. He called upon all the councilors to start to deal with the problems faced by the capital city and to stop making statements only.

The councilors who remained in the meeting hall decided to take a break of 30 minutes for summoning an informal meeting with all the groups and independent councilors in order to agree the agenda of the meeting.
