Liberal-Democratic MP suggests introducing VAT on imported magazines
The Liberal-Democratic lawmaker Chiril Lucinschi, who heads the commission for culture, education, research, youth, sport and mass media, proposed introducing Valued Added Tax (VAT) on imported magazines, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the Liberal-Democratic parliamentary group.
Chiril Lucinschi drafted a bill with amendments to pieces of legislation, including the Tax Code and the Law on the Customs Duty. He said that the bill is aimed at supporting and developing the national media market and at eliminating the elements of disloyal competition.
According to the MP, such amendments are needed as the national media market is not protected from the foreign press. The foreign publications do not pay VAT and they are imported in large volumes, their production costs being much lower.
