Liberal-Democrat political party will emerge in Moldova

A new political organisation will appear on the political arena in Moldova. The Liberal-Democrat Party (PLDM) will be in opposition to the current government and its allies and will aim at revitalising Moldova by creating a modern, prosperous, free and united society, representatives of the new party told at the launching conference on October 8. PLDM will position itself on the centre-right segment between liberalism and social-democracy. Vladimir Filat, chairman of the initiative group, explained the necessity of a new political organisation by the massive absenteeism of the citizens at polls and by the large number of undecided people, fact that shows that there are large social strata that support none of the existent political parties. The appearance of a new party is dictated by the period of political instability through which Moldova goes, determined by the Communist Party’s inability to keep its electoral promises and to offer solutions to the crisis experienced by Moldova, with the Opposition parties lacking ideas and alternative offers, he said. PLDM will suggest modernising the country politically, socially and economically by making the state serve the citizen and not the citizen serve the state as it happens now; protecting the rights and freedoms of the citizens and the free development of the human personality. The objectives formulated by the initiative group also include the decriminalisation of the economy, combating of corruption, de-communisation and de-sovietisation of the society, restoration of the constitutional norms regarding parliamentary republic, holding of a referendum on the Transnistrian dispute, guaranteeing of separation of powers in the state, introduction of the uninominal vote etc. Among the members of the initiative group attending the conference were jurist Alexandru Tanase, the NGO members Mihai Godea and Iulian Fruntasu, journalist Angela Brasoveanu, head of Cantemir district Andrei Malasevschi, chairman of the National Association of Travel Agencies Nicolae Platon etc. The initiative group said that the Congress on the constitution of the new party will take place in December. The Ministry of Justice registered about 30 social-political parties. As a rule, the Parliament is entered by candidates of four-five parties.
