The Liberal Party’s candidate for mayor of Chisinau Valeriu Munteanu assures he will continue the projects initiated by former mayor Dorin Chirtoaca, IPN reports.
The candidate told a news conference that the five largest launched projects are those to thermally insulate the buildings, to reconstruct the Wastewater Treatment Plant, to repair the streets, to assemble trolleybuses and to ensure integrated waste management. Another project was launched when Valeriu Munteanu was minister of environment – to clean the Byk riverbed along the municipality of Chisinau. The project to the value of €10 million is financed by Romania and the EU.
Valeriu Munteanu noted that together with the foreign partners EBRD, EIB and the EU, during many years he has worked on different large projects that have benefitted the inhabitants of Chisinau. “Regrettably, these projects were suspended after Dorin Chirtoaca was removed from mayoralty as the development partners didn’t want to continue their implementation with usurpers and persons who do not represent the citizens of Chisinau municipality,” stated the candidate.
For his part, Dorin Chirtoaca expressed his confidence that only Valeriu Munteanu can continue these projects as he knows them in detail and assumes responsibility for them. If these projects are not continued, the sustainable development of Chisinau is not possible, no matter what other electoral contenders say. During his ten years of mayoralty, the budget of Chisinau was enough for survival only and covered only current costs, while the development of the city was possible thanks to the European partners.
