The Chisinau International Airport should be returned to the people who need it. The Chisinau City Hall should gain controlling interest and should then annul the illegal contract for the concession of the airport to the Shor group. Such intentions were stated by the Liberal Party’s candidate for mayor of Chisinau Valeriu Munteanu, IPN reports.
According to Valeriu Munteanu, four years ago the Chisinau International Airport was stolen from the people and was turned into a real mechanism for making money and obtaining political favors.
“Even the National Anticorruption Center in 2016 ascertained that investments from outside were attracted to modernize the airport, that the made investments came from the profit made by the airport and a part of the airport’s revenues were directed to the football club Milsami Orhei, which is owned by Ilan Shor,” stated the Liberal.
“The thieves that now manage the airport practically pledged the concession contract and raised loans for Avia Invest to have the share capital required by law. Later, with the airport’s revenues they made particular investments, but a large part of these were transferred to a football team.”
Valeriu Munteanu noted he will include the modernization of the Chisinau International Airport in the urban development plan. “I will build a cargo terminal with a capacity of 3,000 tonnes and will modernize the whole runway, not only a quarter. I will also extend the runway to 60 meters, in accordance with the international standards, and will ensure an operational capacity of 25 planes an hour. We need a really modern air entrance gate that would meet the European standards and an airport deserved by a European capital,” stated the Liberal candidate for the mayoralty of Chisinau.
