Liberal candidate for mayor: Building of thermoelectric plant in Chisinau would lead to savings of 30%

The Liberal Party’s candidate for mayor of Chisinau Valeriu Munteanu said a cogeneration power plant built in the metropolitan area as municipal property would contribute to the city’s increased energy independence and would lead to savings of 30% and, respectively, to lower bills, IPN reports.

In a news conference, the Liberal candidate said the Republic of Moldova imports 79% of the consumed power. “Regrettably, the government in time transformed the import of electric power into a method of financing secessionism in Tiraspol. Over 70% of the imported electric power is bought from the Cuchurgan Power Plant,” stated Valeriu Munteanu.

According to him, all the thermal installations in the city date from the Soviet period. They are old and have a low output. At the same time, Chisinau is the only European capital where the heating sector of the city is not managed by the City Hall.

“Termoelectrica is now fully state owned and the inhabitants of Chisinau cannot see when and how the heat is purchased, produced or supplied,” stated Valeriu Munteanu. He noted the construction of a cogeneration power plant will free the inhabitants of Chisinau from the responsibility placed on them through contracts by the government of Moldova and by the Tiraspol-Moscow axis,” stated the Liberal candidate.
