Lib-Dems to stage meeting, march asking for ensuring right to vote for migrant Moldovans

The Liberal Democratic Party from Moldova (PLDM) will unfold on February 22, in the Great National Assembly Square, at 10.00 o’clock, a meeting with a march “against the refusal of the Moldovan authorities to ensure the right to vote of the Moldovan citizens who are abroad,” Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the press service of the PLDM, the march will follow from the Great National Assembly Square to Stefan cel Mare boulevard, to the Presidency. “The PLDM appeals to all the people of good faith, who are not indifferent to the future of this country, to participate in the protest, to make the Communist government observe the right to vote of our fellow countrymen from abroad and ensure all conditions for exerting it,” reads a news release of the PLDM, aired on February 12. The PLDM has previously organized many actions to support the Moldovan citizens who are abroad, reads the release. On January 23, the party drew the notice of the public opinion and of the bodies in charge to the existent problems in ensuring the right to vote of the Moldovans from abroad. Several days later, the PLDM organized a news conference, at which it asked the Government and the Central Electoral Commission to open a sufficient number of polling stations in the countries where there are Moldovan communities, not only in the diplomatic representations of Moldova. The party also asked these institutions for unfolding some informing campaigns in foreign media regarding the parliamentary elections and allotting financial means to ensure the participation in elections of our fellow countrymen. On February 2, MP Vlad Filat, the PLDM's president, asked the Parliament to intervene as to creating conditions so that the Moldovan citizens from abroad were able to participate in the ballot. On February 6, he made an appeal to the political class and the civil society to back the intercessions of the Moldovan communities from abroad and to promote a common message in the problem of ensuring their constitutional right to vote. On February 8, the PLDM organized a protest meeting, and on February 10, having the mandate of many communities of the Moldovans from Ireland, Britain, Spain, Italy, the PLDM lodged a complaint with the ECHR concerning the alleged violation of the electoral right guaranteed by article 3 of the First Additional Protocol to the European Convention, Moldova is a part to.
