Lib-Dems propose complex bill on prosecution service reform

The Liberal Democratic Party will propose a bill containing complex measures to reform the General Prosecutor's Office (GPO), the party's parliamentary group's leader Valeriu Strelet announced at a news conference. Strelet said this is due to concerns that, despite rather vigorous reformatory efforts initiated by the government, the reform at the GPO is stagnating. The Lib-Dem group created a task force to develop the bill and Strelet encouraged other MPs as well as civil society members to offer their input. The bill in particular will include the proposals to gradually assign the status of magistrates to prosecutors and to concentrate the prosecutors' efforts on criminal justice manners. Another proposal is that the Prosecutor General should be appointed for a long period, but without the possibility to be re-appointed.
