Levee near Crocmaz village continues to be reinforced

The works to reinforce the levee near Crocmaz village towards Tudora village continued on May 26. As many as 7,500 sandbags were placed on a length of 3 km to protect the village from floods if the level of water in the Nistru River rises, IPN reports.

According to the General Inspectorate for Emergencies, the reinforced levee is now up to 1 meter in height. Rescuers, soldiers and carabiners made the levee stronger by adding gravel and clay to it. On May 27 the works will continue by placing 2,100 sacks of sand.

There are observation points on the Nistru and Prut from where the level of water in the two rivers is monitored continuously. More than 300 persons and 97 units of transport were involved in the works to prevent floods.

After the level of water in the Nistru and Prut increased, a crisis cell involving experts of a number of state institutions was set up at the General Inspectorate for Emergencies to manage the situation.
