The National Children's Library "Ion Creanga," in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and the Union of Writers of the Republic of Moldova, celebrated reading at the Summary Conference of the 13th edition of the national reading promotion campaign, "Let's Read Together!". The event took place at the Republican Puppet Theater "Licurici" and marked an important milestone for literary education across the country, IPN reports.

Held annually from February to December, the campaign brought together an impressive number of readers in 2024. Over 22,000 children, teenagers, teachers, parents, and librarians participated in events organized in 512 libraries across 23 districts. Additionally, 76 meetings with authors were held. In total, 1,013 reading activities, contests, and interactive meetings were conducted to encourage reading among children and young people.

“The Bibliobus was an essential element of this year's campaign, and its success was remarkable. Children from remote villages had the chance to meet authors and read books by contemporary local writers. Sometimes, meetings with authors were eagerly anticipated, and in some localities, children ran with flowers in hand to greet the writers”, explained Maria Harea, head of the "Library Science and Information Science Development" section at the National Library "Ion Creanga."

“In a village in Cahul district, a group of children welcomed the writer Maria Pilchin, while in Edineț, at the meeting with Larisa Turea, elderly villagers who had lived through deportations shared profound emotions about their painful past”, Maria Harea added.

For the first time, the national campaign featured and promoted six local books. Children had the opportunity to explore the works and meet the authors of "Funny Announcements for Adults and Children" by Ionela Hadârcă, "The Miracle" by Elena Baciu-Mihailov and Aliona Bereghici, "Doggy" by Maria Pilchin, "The Book of Hunger" by Larisa Turea, "The Yellow Terrace" by Arcadie Suceveanu, and "With the Novel on Vacation" by Grigore Chiper. Each author interacted with readers and answered their questions.



At the summary conference, artistic moments and opinions about the books promoted during the campaign were presented. Students from Chisinau and other localities performed poetry recitals and theatrical presentations.



The "Let's Read Together!" campaign was remarkably successful, contributing to the development of a love for reading among young people in Moldova. With the help of the mobile library and direct meetings with authors, reading became more accessible and appealing to youth and children. Thanks to this initiative, young people across the country discovered the fascinating world of contemporary literature and connected with its authors.
