A 27-year-old man was sentenced to ten years in jail for killing the female owner of the apartment he rented. It happened in Chisinau at the beginning of September, IPN reports.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the young man, who is from Leova district, rented an apartment in Râșcani district for a night. The man was drunk when the owner came to take the keys back. Without any concrete reason, he hit the victim and then strangled her to death with a bag strap.
The offender fully admitted his guilt. When being questioned, he said that he committed the murder because the woman refused to give him back the identity card she asked from him one day earlier, when she leased out the apartment. After he killed the woman, he took her mobile phone, the key and went away. He sold the mobile phone at a market the same day.
The young man had been in custody until the court passed its judgment. He will serve his sentence in a closed prison.
The sentence is not definitive and can be challenged in the Appeals Court.
