Less public transport units on Chisinau roads during holidays
The number of public transport units travelling on the streets of Chisinau municipality will decrease during the winter holidays, Veaceslav Tarna, head of the city transport department, stated Monday, December 24, at a City Hall meeting.
Tarna could not tell to what extent the number of units will be decreased, but said that suburban mayors and other relevant city authorities would be consulted before making a final decision, so as not to affect the residents of the city.
According to Tarna, these measures are necessary in order to reduce the costs of municipal carriers, as during holidays the number of passengers significantly decreases.
As regards the condition of the roads in the city, Veaceslav Tarna said there are no problems with vehicle traffic. At the moment, 283 trolleybuses, 108 buses and some 1,600 minibuses are out on the roads.
Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca sought from the persons in charge in the field of transport to remove glare ice from the pavements.
