Length of civil (alternative) service to be reduced
Starting this autumn, the civil (alternative) service will be performed in a shorter time. The Parliament passed in final reading the draft law (new version) on the organisation of the civil service on Friday, July 6.
The length of the civil service was reduced from two years to one year.
Another amendment refers to the fact that those who will perform the alternative military service will not be able to work in agriculture. The service can be made in public institutions and companies which have activities on the national territories, in fields such as social and medical assistance, industrial constructions, roadways and railways, environment protection, as well as in the special structures of the civil service.
The following categories of persons shall not perform the civil service: those who performed the military service, who lost one of the relatives while they were completing the military service; the clergy, and those who due to their health condition are unfit for civil service. The period of the civil service is included in the work experience of those who perform it.
The civil service is an alternative for those who have religious, ethical, humanitarian convictions or similar reasons, due to which they can not perform the military service.
5500 persons are currently serving an alternative service.
