Legislature to hold new extraordinary sitting

The lawmakers will come together for a new extraordinary sitting on January 22, this time on the Communist faction’s initiative. Two issues will be discussed in the meeting: the dismissal of Speaker Marian Lupu and the dismissal of First Deputy Speaker Vlad Plahotniuc, Info-Prim Neo reports. In the January 21 extraordinary sitting, when the Communist lawmakers announced their intention to propose putting the two dismissals to the vote, Marian Lupu said that the Communist faction can ask only for the discharge of the Head of Parliament, not yet of the First Deputy Head of Parliament. Under the Parliament’s Regulations, the dismissal of the Speaker can be asked by the faction that proposed him or by 1/3 of the MPs. The decision to dismiss the Head of Parliament is taken by the secret votes of 2/3 of the MPs. The First Deputy Speaker can be discharged at the suggestion of the Head of Parliament, by a majority of votes of MP. The January 22 extraordinary sitting will start at 11.00. In the January 21 sitting, the legislative body accepted the resignation of Prosecutor General Valeriu Zubko and instituted a commission of inquiry into the way the competent bodies handled the December 23 hunting incident that resulted in one death.
