Legislative body should be properly valued, NGO

The Parliament’s work is not very efficient. The legislative body fulfills only half of its duties and does not supervise the Government, which is its major task. Related statements were made by the head of the Resource Center for Human Rights (CreDO) Sergiu Ostaf in public debates organized by civil society, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The legislature makes laws, but does not supervise how the Government implements the legal procedures and does nothing to make the executive responsible. Consequently, the Government does what it wants and we can do nothing,” Sergiu Ostaf said, adding the legalities body cannot be held accountable as it has immunity. According to the CreDO head, one of the legislature’s major shortcomings is that it does not assess the impact of the laws. It hasn’t done this since the proclamation of Moldova’s independence. “We believe the Parliament should sound the alarm. They (the MPs) discuss only the private and party interests. We want the work of Parliament to be improved so that it is properly valued,” said Sergiu Ostaf. The debates themed “The 5 O’clock Tea” were organized by the National NGO Council and involved representatives of the press.
