Parliament's Legal Commission has approved the appointment of 8 out of 9 members of the Central Election Commission (CEC) on a motion proposed by the Committee's president, Democrat MP Raisa Apolschii.
The motion proposed for re-appointment the outgoing CEC members Vasile Gafton, Eduard Raducan and Andrei Volentir, in addition to the appointment of former Deputy Minister of Justice Sergiu Gurduz; Chisinau councilman and Socialist chief jurist Maxim Lebedinschi; parliamentary adviser Veaceslav Agrigoroae; jurist Rodica Ciubotaru; and Alina Russu, the head of the Communist Group Leader's Office.
The term of the outgoing CEC members expired in February, but was extended until May to allow for snap local elections in several constituencies. The ninth CEC member is to be nominated by the President.
