Legal commission chooses new NIC member representing civil society

The Parliament’s legal commission for appointments and immunities selected lawyer Victor Stratila to represent civil society in the National Integrity Commission (NIC). The candidate is to be confirmed by Parliament, Info-Prim Neo reports. Victor Stratila was chosen out of seven applicants. The members of the legal commission asked the candidate why he left the post of prosecutor that he held earlier. Victor Stratila said he wanted to try something new. Furthermore, as a prosecutor, he couldn’t take part in the international programs he wanted. When asked why he wants to renounce advocacy in favor of a state post, the candidate said this is a new stage in his career. Victor Stratila was recommended by the Association for Participatory Democracy, the Legal Resources Center, and the Ecologist Movement. The candidate assured the lawmakers that he is not member of a party, is not in close relations with MPs and is sure that he will do a good job in this post. Victor Stratila is the third candidate of civil society for the post of member of the National Integrity Commission. The first candidate resigned, while the second wasn’t approved by Parliament.
