Legal Commission approves Ala Popescu's appointment as Parliament's Secretary General

The Legal Commission today approved with seven votes the appointment of Ala Popescu as Parliament's Secretary General, Info-Prim Neo reports. Commission's head Victor Popa recalled that the Secretary General is appointed by the Speaker, but the appointment requires the Legal Commission's confirmation. With the approval came the first Commission's request for Ala Popescu: to find an adequate location for the Commission's meetings. “It's preposterous that a Commission as large and important as the Legal Commission is has to sit in such conditions. The Ministers have to wait in the lobby until we can hear them. We don't even have an antechamber”, said Victor Popa, complaining that Ala Popescu's predecessor wasn't able to resolve such a simple problem as identifying a suitable location of the Commission's meetings. Ala Popescu graduated from the Law Department of the Moldova State University (1980) and the Public Administration Academy (2004). She held various posts in the State Chancellery since 1990 and in November 2000 she was appointed its senior vice director. She also served as chairperson of the Court of Accounts.
