Left-wing MEPs make common cause with PCRM over Communist symbols issue

The lawmakers of the European United Left in the European Parliament expressed solidarity with the Moldovan Communist Opposition following the Alliance for European Integration's intention to ban the Communist symbols and the name of the Communists Party, Communist MP Grigore Petrenco told Info-Prim Neo from Brussels. On June 9, the MP took part in one of the two hearings centering on the sociopolitical situation in Moldova that were held at the European Parliament. According to Grigore Petrenco, the left-wing MEPs criticized the Moldovan governors for not observing the human rights, defying democracy and intimidating the mass media institutions. “Our colleagues described the intention to ban the Communist symbols and the name of the Communists Party as attack on the basis of democracy and political pluralism that can result in the deprivation of the people's right to elect political representatives in Parliament,” Grigore Petrenco said. He also said that a group of members of the European United Left will visit soon Moldova.
