A new type of leave will be introduced into the Labor Code, namely the leave for caring for a sick relative or a sick person living in the same dwelling with the employee. This is provided in a bill drafted by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, IPN reports.
Thus, the draft law provides for the introduction of care leave for employees who provide personal care or assistance to a relative or a person living in the same house as the employee and who needs significant care or support due to a serious health problem.
According to the draft, this type of leave will be unpaid and will last for five working days in a calendar year. “The proposed amendment derives from the need to ensure the coordination of the necessary measures to harmonize the national legislative framework with the European legislation, based on the Association Agreement between Moldova and the EU,” the Ministry noted.
Unpaid leave to care for a person living in the same dwelling as the employee will be granted on the basis of a written request.
