Leanca holds the lead in rankings of most influential politicians

Prime Minister Iurie Leanca remains at the top of the rankings of the 50 most influential politicians in Moldova, which are compiled monthly by the Institute for Political Analysis and Consultancy “Politicon”. Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Natalia Gherman keeps the third position. The August rankings were presented in a news conference at IPN.

According to the head of “Politicon” Anatol Taranu, the experts approve of the logical speeches of the Premier and his calm manner of managing the Government.

Head of Parliament Igor Corman climbed two spots to the second. Anatol Taranu said this is due to the fact that the Speaker returned from vacation, opened the parliamentary session and is in the focus of attention.

The leader of the Liberal Democratic Party Vlad Filat comes fourth, two spots down from the previous rankings. Anatol Taranu said the ex-Premier remains one of the most influential politicians, but he loses positions because he lacks administrative instruments.

The fifth place is taken by the Communist leader Vladimir Voronin, who climbed three spots. The head of “Politicon” said such a jump is due to the fact that the Communists started to implement their ‘velvet revolution’ strategy that attracts public attention.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Valeriu Lazar ranks sixth, which is his highest position in the recent past.

President Nicolae Timofti preserved the seventh position. He fulfills strictly constitutional duties and thus has fewer powers than the Premier, explained “Politicon” deputy head Ion Tabarta.

Minister of Education Maia Sandu slipped three positions to the eighth. Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Vasile Bumacov comes ninth, while Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Eugen Carpov is the tenth.

The rankings of the most influential political parties didn’t change significantly. According to Ion Tabarta, only the Liberal Party climbed one spot from the sixth, while the Liberal Reforming Party slipped from the fifth to the sixth place. The PLDM, PCRM and PDM remain the most influential parties in Moldova.
