Leanca admits Association Agreement can be signed later

Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Iurie Leanca does not exclude that the Association Agreement with the EU, which includes the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement, may be signed later than planned owing to technical procedures, Info-Prim Neo reports. Iurie Leanca said that this possible delay will not be due to political problems. “The EU is not the simplest organization. There are many institutions and many member states. There is a whole process. The decisions are taken by consensus. This means that every institution and member must state their opinion,” the minister said in a news conference. He also said it is very important that the signing of the agreements with the EU does not become the focus of internal games. “The Moldovan Foreign Ministry will continue to insist on these objectives. An assessment mission will come to Chisinau on February 18 to verify the preparedness degree that results from the visa liberalization action plan. Four missions will be in Moldova until the middle of March. They will produce a report about two months after the visit,” said Iurie Leanca. He stated that the possible early legislative elections can create certain problems in achieving the European integration objectives. The politicians must realize the importance of this year and maintain stability in the country, putting emphasis on the necessary reforms.
