Moldova’s transformation into a European model of Social-Democracy through economic development, like in Germany and other North European states, represents the top priority of the Social-Democratic Platform that was recently formed by three extraparliamentary parties of the left. The three party leaders of the new organization provided details about it in the talk show “Politics” on TV-7 channel, IPN reports.
The leader of the Social-Democratic Party Victor Shelin said they plead for maintaining relations both with the European Union and with the Customs Union. “The Republic of Moldova must have close relations with both of the sides. We aim to stimulate the country’s economic development. Without a developed economy, the social problems cannot be solved. To ensure rapid economic development, we must have relations both with the East and the West,” he stated.
The head of the Centrist Union Party of Moldova Mihai Petrache said the new political organization pleads for the direct election of the head of state. “We must return to the election of the head of state by direct vote. Only this way will society be able to demand that the head of state should account for what he does. The people must also be offered the right to dismiss the head of state. We will also make effort to free justice from political control,” he said.
Marin Livadaru, chairman of the Progressive Society Party, said that society will be involved in the election of the Platform’s leader. “Each party will propose its own program. Afterward, based on these three programs, we will create a common one. Society will elect the Platform’s leader,” he stated.
The Social-Democratic Party, the Centrist Union Party of Moldova and the Progressive Society Party in August agreed to join together and form the Social-Democratic Platform.
