Leaders of PDM and PSRM hold joint meeting with Premier and President

The leaders of the Democratic Party (PDM) and the Party of Socialists (PSRM) on February 17 took part in a joint meeting with President Igor Dodon and Prime Minister Ion Chicu. According the Parliament’s press service, the parties agreed a number of measures that would contribute to more efficient institutional cooperation in the future. The social platform on which the Government and the parliamentary majority work at present is expected to continue to focus exclusively on people’s problems, far from any false geopolitical debates, IPN reports.

President Dodon underlined the importance of this unprecedented cooperation between the three state institutions, welcoming the fact that the representatives of these institutions can ultimately sit at the same working table and can have a common agenda based on Moldovans’ priorities. He took stock of the launched social initiatives and requested the Government to hasten their implementation.

Premier Chicu spoke about the main directions followed by the Government in its work, related to the socioeconomic development, in particular the improvement of road infrastructure, lighting of villages, enhancement of people’s safety, etc.

The leaders of the PSRM and PDM conferred with the Prime Minister on the common work agenda of the Government and Parliament, asking to adjust the governmental agenda to the commitments undertaken by the two parties before the people. They noted that the support offered by the PDM and the PSRM to the executive is based on the social platform that brings together the key priorities of the people, not on a political platform.

The Democratic parliamentary group proposed that the Government and Parliament should combine forces to implement a country development plan for the next few years, which would contain definite measures aimed at improving people’s lives. The president of the PDM Pavel Filip insisted that the social platform on which the Government and the parliamentary majority work at present should continue to focus exclusively on the resolution of people’s problems, far from any false geopolitical debates, and should follow a European development course, including as regards the strengthening of the rule of law and corruption fighting, pursuing the goal of modernizing Moldova and integrating it into the EU.
