Leaders of extraparliamentary parties have negative opinions about the election campaign and consider that early elections will follow. Such opinions were stated in the program “Politics” on TV7 channel, IPN reports.
Ruslan Popa, chairman of the Communist Reformist Party of Moldova, believes this autumn’s elections will not be free, but voiced hope that the people will punish those who have governed the country for 23 years. “We have elections after elections, but nothing changes. The politicians name to posts people who work for them, not for the state,” he said.
Mihai Godea, head of the Democratic Action Party, said that they tried to form an electoral coalition with other center-left parties, but they had only interminable discussions. That’s why the party will take part in the elections by itself. “We will see how they convince those almost 30% of the people who lost confidence in the current government, but do not support the political left either,” he stated. As to the election campaign, Godea said it will be a harsh and ruthless campaign because such elementary conditions as access to the media and free access to other kinds of resources are not respected.
The president of honor of the Christian-Democratic People’s Party Iurie Rosca considers that an institutional blockage will appear after the November 30 elections, which will lead to early elections. “The people lose interest in the elections. The lack of intellectual training of the politicians is even more serious than corruption. If the current coalition does not win a majority of seats, the head of state may use his excusive right to nominate a candidate for premiership, who will not be accepted by another parliamentary majority. He may repeat this procedure three times and then dissolve Parliament,” he stated.
Former Communist MP Victor Stepaniuc, who now heads the People’s Socialist Party of Moldova, said the parties should unite in order to overcome the difficulties. “We admit that many revolting things were done in the country over the last four years. No political party, big or small, can form the government by itself. There are valuable people, but they form part of different parties. Regretfully, none of the opposition parties suggested forming a broad coalition for Moldova, not for Russia or Europe. Therefore, there is an 80% possibility that early elections will follow after the November 30 legislative elections,” he stated.
