Leaders of coalition parties comment on situation in Ukraine

The leaders of the three parties of the government coalition expressed their concern about the situation in Ukraine and condemned the bloodshed in the neighboring state. Related statements were made in the program Fabrika on Publika TV channel on February 20, IPN reports.

The leader of the Liberal Democratic Party Vlad Filat said the tragedy in Ukraine is due to an imprudent policy and the steps taken against the own people. According to him, it’s inadmissible to make promises to the people and then to change one’s mind and sell the people’s hopes as at the market.

Filat also said that the events in Kiev should be a lesson for the Moldovan politicians as one must not go against the own people.

The Democratic Party’s head Marian Lupu considers that it’s not opportune for the Moldovan politicians to make statements about the events in Ukraine as they represent internal affairs of a sovereign state. He said he will make common cause with the forces that will peacefully resolve the conflict and condemned the forces that resort to violence.

The leader of the Liberal Reforming Party Ion Hadarca also condemned the use of violence in Ukraine, saying the created situation represents an internal matter of the neighboring state. Those events do not pose a threat to Moldova, but the representatives of the government coalition were repeatedly warned about possible provocations before the Vilnius Summit and now, before the signing of the Association Agreement.
