Leader of People’s Republican Party to sue Prosecution Office’s decision

People’s Republican Party (PRP) confirms once more the political character of the penal proceedings against the leader of the Party Nicolae Andronic by bringing new arguments. According to a press-release of the Party’s Press Service, cited by Info-Prim Neo, on Friday, February 2, the leader of PRP was invited by the General Prosecutor’s Office where he was informed that he will not be able to leave the country for one more month due to the penal investigations. The cited source reminds that after the proceedings started, Andronic said these actions are politically motivated, but he did not undertake any actions that would jeopardise the investigations. Andronic urged his colleagues and supporters to abstain from any statements and commentaries. But now, in light of the fact that the constraint measure was kept, the leader of PRP says that he will sue this decision because he considers it has no legal grounds. The party’s press service specifies that during the last month Nicolae Andronic has never been summoned as defendant to the criminal investigation body in order to operate investigation actions. Given these circumstances, Andronic thinks the investigation is not moving forward and the case has been launched at someone’s command with the purpose of intimidation of the members of opposition parties. The accused person did not avoid contacts with the investigators, didn’t break the interdiction he had been given and didn’t make any actions which would jeopardise the investigation. Therefore, it is clear that the inadequate behaviour of the criminal investigation body and the General Prosecutor’s Office is due to the willingness to limit Nicolae Andronic in exercising his right to free circulation, the communiqué says. PPR qualify this “tactic” as a fraudulent attempt of the power to create obstacles to the party, before the local elections campaign. It also says that it is a revenge for the failure supported by the power in the elections of the Gagauzia’s Governor, won by one of the PPR leaders. According to the media, the prosecutor’s office charges Nicolae Andronic with the fact that about 8 years ago he extorted money from an individual, by blackmailing.
