The Party “Democracy at Home” (DA) decided to leave the Electoral Bloc “European People’s Party of Moldova - Iurie Leanca” for the reason that the promise to include young members of the DA on lists at local and district levels, made by the colleagues from the bloc, wasn’t fulfilled. On May 8, the team of the DA announced that the party will run in the elections independently.
The party’s head Vasile Costiuc, in a news conference at IPN, said the DA constantly promoted the message that the political class must be changed and the situation in the country must be improved. Regretfully, those who were brought to power in April 2009 bitterly disappointed the people and compromised the European course, especially after the PLDM and PDM formed a coalition with the PCRM.
Vasile Costiuc noted that the appearance of Iurie Leanca’s project was like a glimmer of hope for the young generation and those who became disappointed in the parties that declare themselves pro-European. When the bloc was formed, discussions were held and they agreed that the bloc’s lists of candidates will include young members of the DA.
“Regrettably, a part of my young colleagues weren’t included on the lists of candidates for the posts of mayor or other elective posts in our villages. I tried to transmit a message inside the bloc as I really wanted this bloc to be a real alternative for the European future, but I probably wasn’t understood, as my colleagues weren’t. We joined the bloc not to beg posts, but to work alongside the other colleagues,” stated Vasile Costiuc, noting the decision to leave the bloc wasn’t an easy one and there are no forces hostile to the platform behind it.
The DA leader also said that he and his colleagues respect Iurie Leanca and wish him success in the coming elections, but he should be attentive as some of his colleagues work subversively in this team and do not aim to strengthen society or become an alternative force, but want to become chiefs in the future government.
