The leader of the criminal group “Borman” Oleg Pruteanu and three accomplices of his were remanded in custody for 30 days. They are suspected of obtaining over €1million from selling 650 kg of hashish. The announcement was made in a news conference, IPN reports.
Head of the National Investigations Inspectorate Ion Yakimov said the so-called “Borman brothers” Gennady Flocea and Oleg Pruteanu at the start of the 2000s started their criminal activity in Italy, committing thefts, burglaries and kidnappings. Later they reoriented their “business” to Spain and Portugal. In 2014, Gennady Flocea was sentenced to 18 years in jail in Portugal for creating a criminal organization. Oleg Pruteanu started to sell hashish, which is in demand in Russia.
Prosecutor Lilian Bacalam said the leaders of the group, who were arrested on October 1 this year, recruited persons whom they sent to Spain to buy hashish brought from Morocco. In Spain, the hashish was hidden in units of transport brought from Germany. Afterward, the drugs were transported to the Russian Federation. In Spain, the drugs were bought for €800-1,200 per kilogram. In Russia, these were sold for €2,500 per kg.
Both the leaders and the members of the group have luxury homes and cars. The prosecutors already started to sequestrate the goods. The members of the group are aged between 26 and 45 and many of them have Romanian or Russian nationality as well. As a result of searches, there were seized guns, munitions, precious jewelry and other things. The persons face eight to 15 years in jail for creating a criminal group, seven to 15 years in jail for trafficking in drugs and up to ten years in jail for smuggling.
Recently, another 12 members of the criminal group were arrested and charged in the EU.
