Over 71% of the lawyers are satisfied with the accessibility of the materials of criminal cases and with the time allotted for the period between the presentation of the citation and the hearing date, while 73% are fully satisfied with the publicity of trials. The findings are contained in the quarterly report No. 4 on the monitoring of the justice sector reform strategy.
In a news conference at IPN, program director of Promo-LEX Association Pavel Postica said that according to surveys and reports by those who carried out the monitoring, the satisfaction level of those involved in trials with the general way of doing justice has constantly increased.
The survey covered judges, prosecutors, lawyers, bailiffs and court clerks. Asked about the process of financing the judiciary, most of the respondents said the funding is not enough. Only 64 persons of the 208 surveyed consider the financing is sufficient. As to the disciplinary punishment of judges, 79 of those polled said the procedure is better than earlier. The rest believe that the situation is rather bad or they do not have a clear view.
Pavel Postica said the situation as regards the independence of the Prosecutor General’s Office is worse. Most of the respondents said the prosecution service is not independent. A great number of respondents are dissatisfied with the method of managing courts’ websites.
The report covered the period between October 1 and December 31, 2013 and was compiled within the project “Increasing Government Accountability by Monitoring the Justice Sector Reform” that is implemented by Promo-LEX and the Association for Efficient and Responsible Governance, with financial support from the EU.
