In 2014, the incomes of lawyers, public notaries, bailiffs and mediators will be taxed as until now, at a tax rate of 18% (which is also used in the case of private entities for incomes of over 27,800 lei), Deputy Minister of Finance Victor Barbaneagra said in a program on Radio Moldova. The decision was taken as a result of discussions held by the authorities with representatives of the mentioned categories, IPN reports.
The Ministry of Finance proposed that the incomes of these taxpayers should be taxed at a tax rate of 12%, as in the case of legal entities. It also suggested imposing VAT on the provided services and a management tax, as for legal entities.
The Ministry’s proposals aroused controversy. It was anticipated that the new taxation method will lead to a rise in the prices of the services provided for the population. This was one of the reasons why it was agreed to maintain the old taxation system.
Victor Barbaneagra said a working group will be set up to thoroughly analyze the situation. When the fiscal policy for 2014 is debated, it will submit proposals concerning the taxation methods, including in the context of the Ministry of Finance’s intention to create a common taxation system.
