Lawyer suspected of asking for €6 000 for ‘corrupting’ judge

Anticorruption officers and employees of the Department of Penitentiary Institutions arrested a lawyer from Chisinau on suspicion of influence peddling, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime (CCCEC). According to the denouncer, the lawyer asked for €6 000 from him, asserting he has influence over a judge of the Chisinau Court of Appeals and can make him set free a prisoner of Penitentiary No. 13. The lawyer was arrested on the territory of a parking lot situated on Ciuflea St in Chisinau. The bills marked ‘CCCEC bribe’ were found in the lawyer’s bag that he yielded up to the police. The lawyer is held in the remand unit of the CCCEC. He faces up to six year in prison or a fine of up to 60 000 lei for traffic of influence. So far this year, the CCCEC has investigated eight lawyers suspected of different acts of corruption.
