Lawyer about illegalities and property of prosecutor Adrian Popenco

The lawyer for the Organization for Human Rights “Right to Justice” Eduard Rudenco said that prosecutor Adrian Popenco and other persons working in the legal system who inexplicably came into possession of impressive properties are simply corrupt. Usually, they register their property in the name of relatives. For example, the luxury house in which prosecutor Adrian Popenco lives is registered in the name of his wife’s parents. Furthermore, it is registered as being 96 square meters in area, but in reality it is much larger. “We can see that when they become prosecutors, judges, strange, inexplicable things happen to them. In some of the cases, the parents, at the age of 80, become prosperous businesspeople. In other cases, the children, if they reach an appropriate age, become businessmen. The case of Popenco accurately shows that these individuals are simply corrupt. It is evident that these people should bear legal responsibility for what they did. Adrian Popenco in 2010 – 2011 became an important chain in the raider attacks. In the period, the fugitive procurer Plahotniuc started to capture the state and launched the raider attacks on the economic sector,” Eduard Rudenco stated in a news conference at IPN.

He noted that the first evident attacks on Victoriabank began exactly in the mentioned period. Then, through the agency of the prosecutor, criminal cases were started against a businessman who held shares in Victoriabank, Banca de Economii, Victoria Asigurări and ASITO. Adrian Popenco annulled the order not to take legal action that was made earlier despite the evidence showing that the businessman was innocent. He falsified proofs in the case and the businessman was convicted, while his shares were taken over by the “criminal group of Plahotniuc”.

Eduard Rudenco expressed his indignation at the fact that Adrian Popenco, “who is one of the prosecutors who form part of the criminal group controlled by the fugitive procurer Vlad Plahotniuc”, continues to work in the prosecution service. According to him, the people who suffered as a result of his actions are afraid to say in public what they experienced even if the former leader of the PDM fled the country a year ago. “In other states with developed democracy, where the law rules, the people from the justice sector who commit crimes are punished much harsher. It is an aggravating circumstance and, when a person who holds a post in the legal system commits a crime, this is punished much harsher than a simple person. In our country, the persons who commit crimes out of necessity, are punished very harshly, are given long prison terms, are deprived of property and are being destroyed, while those who commit serious crimes when they must protect us from wrongdoings are freed from liability. No prosecutor was remanded in custody for illegal arrests, for criminal cases started by order, for destroyed destinies and properties,” stated the lawyer.

Pavel Grigorciuc, the president of the Organization for Human Rights “Right to Justice”, warned other functionaries too that they will not get rid of punishment even if they are aided by corrupt persons from the system. “Sooner or later, we will see justice being done in our courtrooms. If we do not succeed, the people will have the moral right to do justice themselves,” stated Pavel Grigorciuc. He called on the population to furnish their organization with information about corrupt prosecutors and judges if they have such so as to improve the state of affairs in the legal system by common efforts.
